It’s officially the holiday season. Which means, to a coffee lover, peppermint mocha season! Woo woo!
I personally like to enjoy peppermint flavor all year long, so I’ve been making my own peppermint syrup for years.
It’s a delicious syrup that is incredibly easy-to-make with only a few simple ingredients that you probably already have at home or can get at any local grocery store.
It’s a great way to enjoy your favorite drinks at home for way cheaper than a coffee shop.

How to Make Peppermint Syrup
Make your own homemade peppermint syrup with three simple ingredients - white sugar, water, and peppermint extract.
It’s pretty much a simple syrup recipe WITH the addition of peppermint for that refreshingly delicious sweet peppermint taste.
Like most simple syrups, the ratio of sugar and water is one-to-one.
For the best flavor, I recommend using filtered water to make this peppermint syrup or any coffee syrup.
Tap water can taste funky. Or just negatively affect the taste.
In a medium saucepan, combine one cup of granulated sugar and one cup of water.
Heat on low to medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar dissolves completely.
Remove from heat and add one and a half teaspoons of peppermint extract. Stir well.
Allow to cool completely then transfer to an airtight container.
How to Store
Store the syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
An easy way to store peppermint syrup is in a mason jar. But, any glass jar with a lid would work.
It can also be stored in one of these Coffee Syrup Dispensers for Coffee Bar or one of these Squeeze Condiment Bottles.
A bottle of peppermint syrup is definitely convenient and efficient for early mornings, especially during this time of year.
If you’re making this peppermint syrup recipe to put in a gift basket or to give as a great homemade gift, I recommend using glass mason jars.
My favorite way to do this is to tie a red and white striped thread around the mason jar with a cute label.

Peppermint Syrup Uses
This peppermint syrup can be used in many ways.
The first time I made it, I only used it to make peppermint mochas.
An easy Peppermint Mocha recipe is 1 cup strongly brewed coffee, 1/4 cup milk of your choice, 1 Tablespoon chocolate syrup, and 1 teaspoon peppermint syrup. Combine in a glass and enjoy!
For a full recipe, check out How to Make Peppermint Mocha. The coffee concentrate can be changed to espresso or your own homemade coffee concentrate.
This is a great peppermint syrup for coffee. I like to add it to my own lattes. No chocolate needed.
It’s also delicious in hot chocolate, on ice cream, or in tea (iced tea or hot tea).
This minty syrup works for both hot and cold drinks.
One of my favorite ways to use it is in my hot cocoa though.
When I was in college, I used to add candy canes to my hot cocoa to try to make peppermint hot chocolate. Have you ever tried that?
I promise this homemade peppermint syrup works better.
The amount of syrup that should be used depends on your own personal taste and what you are adding it too.
I recommend starting with a smaller amount, tasting, then adding more if desired.
