For this DIY Peppermint Mocha recipe, I used Javy Coffee’s Microdose - Liquid Coffee Concentrate. BUT, you can use any coffee concentrate in this recipe. You can even replace it with good ol’ espresso.

Coffee Concentrate, like Javy Coffee’s, does make it easy and quick to have fun, fancy dinks at home though. No brewing required! Just open and pour.

What is Javy Coffee?

It is a convenient, quick, and easy coffee concentrate. The bottle says, “Simply take 1-2 teaspoons of Microdose and mix it with your favorite liquid for a perfect cup of coffee”.

Javy reached out to see if I’d make a video of their product for Pinterest in exchange for a free bottle of their coffee concentrate. I absolutely LOVE coffee. I pretty much lived at Starbucks in my youth. So, I clearly said yes.

I was impressed by the ease of baking and making fun drinks with the coffee concentrate.

This DIY Peppermint Mocha became my go-to coffee every morning for a couple weeks. Then I realized I probably shouldn’t have that much sugar daily (from the chocolate and peppermint syrup). 😂

I did bake AMAZING Coffee Chocolate Chip Cookies with Javy Coffee Concentrate as well. I swear they taste like coffee ice cream. I can’t wait to share that recipe with you too.

I love this Peppermint Mocha Coffee though. I hope you do too!

Homemade Peppermint Mocha

First, we need to make Peppermint Simple Syrup. It’s SUPER easy to do. And it lasts for a couple weeks so you don’t need to do this step every time you want to make a Peppermint Mocha at home.

I like to make a jarful of the Peppermint Syrup and store it in my fridge. After that, all I need to do, while making my Peppermint Mocha, is take the jar out, shake it, then add two teaspoons of the syrup to my coffee concentrate and chocolate syrup (then add milk 😁).

I have experimented with different amounts of Peppermint Extract in this syrup recipe. If you LOVE peppermint, feel free to add 2 teaspoons of Peppermint Extract to your Peppermint Simple Syrup instead of 1.5 teaspoons like the recipe card says below.

A mason jar of homemade Peppermint Syrup on a wooden board with a bottle of javy coffee concentrate, a white pouring cup of milk, and a big bottle of Hershey's chocolate syrup.

How to Make Homemade Peppermint Simple Syrup

You will need 1 cup water, 1 cup white sugar, and 1 ½ teaspoons of Peppermint Extract.

In a small saucepan, bring sugar and water to a soft boil.

Reduce heat and continuously stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Stir in the peppermint extract and remove from heat. Let cool.

Pour cooled peppermint simple syrup into a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. I use these Ball Regular Mouth Mason Jars with Lids and Bands.

Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

The Peppermint Syrup will be good for two weeks in the fridge. I recommend shaking it before using.

What is in Peppermint Mocha?

The Ingredients of a Homemade Peppermint Mocha - Coffee Concentrate, Homemade Peppermint Syrup in a mason jar, Hershey's Chocolate Syrup Bottle, and a container of milk.

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons Javy Microdose Coffee Concentrate
  • 1 tablespoon Chocolate Syrup, like Hershey’s
  • 2 teaspoons Homemade Peppermint Syrup (described in the section above)
  • 1 ½ cups Milk (of your choice)

Optional additions:

  • Whipped Cream!!! YUM!
  • I like to add red sprinkles like I’m at Starbucks. Amazon has some – Wilton Sprinkles – Red Sanding Sugar.
  • Festive Straws, like these Christmas Paper Straws.

Hot or Cold?

This is entirely up to you. I drink it cold because it’s faster and easier to make. I also don’t dirty as many dishes.

If you prefer a hot peppermint mocha, simply heat it up in a microwave or on a stovetop in a saucepan.

You could also steam the milk, if you have a fancy steamer. I do not. 😂
