An oat milk latte is known for its creamy texture, rich flavor, and plant-based milk.

My favorite way to enjoy it is as an iced latte.

It’s refreshing on hot summer days or warm mornings. And it’s no secret that I LOVE an iced coffee drink. 😉

This latte recipe is incredibly easy to customize. You don’t even need an espresso machine!

What is in an iced oat milk latte?

This iced oat milk latte recipe includes three simple ingredients - ice cubes, creamy oat milk, and rich espresso (or strong coffee).

If you’d like to add your favorite sweetener, you can easily do that. I always recommend tasting coffee drinks, made as they’re written in the recipe cards, before adding anything.

It’s the best way to make the perfect iced oat milk latte for you! And one that tastes like it's from your favorite coffee shop.

Some types of oat milk already have enough sugar for me. But, others like to add a little maple syrup, brown sugar, or simple syrup to this latte.

Cold Oat Milk

This delicious latte can be made with your favorite brand of oat milk.

It can also be made with dairy milk or your other favorite non-dairy options.

If you’re watching calories, unsweetened almond milk can be used. BUT, it will not create a creamy latte like oat milk.

Oat milk is also higher in protein and dietary fiber, as talked about in “Oat Milk vs. Almond Milk: Which is Healthier?” On EatingWell.com.

Espresso or Strong Coffee

The traditional way to make an iced oat milk latte is with espresso shots.

If you don’t have an espresso machine or you’re just too tired to deal with it, I have good news - this delicious drink can easily be made with strong coffee.

Most of the time, I buy this Starbucks Iced Coffee (Dark Roast) or this Stok Cold Brew (Extra Bold) at the grocery store to use in this iced oat milk latte recipe.

The cold coffee can be immediately poured into iced oat milk for an effortless morning latte on a warm day.

For best results, use a dark roast cold coffee or cold brew though. We need a strong coffee to mimic the taste of espresso in a latte.

Can I use instant coffee instead of espresso?

Yes, of course.

I recommend making a coffee concentrate with instant coffee for this iced oat milk latte or any other coffee recipe that calls for espresso or strong coffee.

To make coffee concentrate, simply combine 2 teaspoons of instant coffee granules and 2 Tablespoons of warm water.

Mix until the instant coffee is completely dissolved and the concentrate is smooth.

Then add to your iced oat milk.

Is an iced oat latte healthy?

It can be a healthier alternative to traditional coffee drinks, especially if you do not add sugar or any coffee syrups.

It also depends on the type of oat milk that you choose to use in this recipe.

For a healthier coffee, look for an unsweetened oat milk (to reduce your intake of added sugars) that has a simple ingredient list.

According to this journal article at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM), “Oat milk contains a good quantity of fatty acids, protein, minerals, vitamins, dietary fiber, and a variety of micronutrients and provides several health benefits, as it reduces blood sugar, lowers cholesterol, and prevents cancer”.

Oat milk is also vegan and naturally free of dairy, lactose, soy, and nuts.

But, it usually “has more calories, carbs, and fiber than almond, soy, and cow’s milk. It provides less protein than soy and dairy varieties”, according to Healthline’s “How Do You Make Oat Milk? Nutrients, Benefits, and More”.

Tips & Tricks

The best way to make this iced oat milk latte recipe is in a mason jar with an airtight lid, like these Mason Jar Drinking Glasses with Lids.

It’s the easiest way to get perfectly frothy milk.

Simply add plain ice cubes and oat milk to a mason jar. Secure the lid. And shake vigorously.

If you’d prefer to use a milk frother, that works too. I absolutely love this handheld frother on Amazon. It’s currently out of stock, so I bought this battery-operated milk frother to try and report back. 🤞🏻

It’s how I prepare matcha for a matcha latte, like this Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk, this Strawberry Matcha Latte, and this Vanilla Matcha Latte.
